The Gameskeeper

With some time to kill in between leaving Watford and getting to Abingdon on Friday, I spent the afternoon in Oxford revisiting old haunts. Magdalen hasn't changed much. Pleasingly, neither has The Gameskeeper, the games shop on Cowley Road. When I was younger, there were lots of games shops. Now there are only a handful in the whole country. Buying the freehold some years back and being near so many students seems to account for the continued operation of this one.

I ended up spending rather more than I planned to. Oh well.

Oh, and chris_maslen and clarienne - Carol sends her regards.

Is that where Chris used to work?

No, he worked at the comic shop on the plain (now a deli). This is on Cowley Road and they're Tolkien friendly gaming people that run it.

I haven't been there in ages; I never seem to go that way at a time when they're open. It's nice to know that they're still operating, though.

Glad to hear they're still going, once upon a time it was easy to find games shops, I think there were 3 in Brighton at one point in the 80s, now though ...
