Spielberg on Dartmoor

Apparently Steven Spielberg is currently shooting a film on Dartmoor. brightonboy and I were reading about this in the copy of the Western Morning News in reception. The film is apparently about some guy who goes off to the First World War to find his favourite horse. It didn't sound the most exciting film he's ever made. brightonboy asked (poignantly I think) "It's not exactly 'Jaws' is it? Couldn't they put a shark in there somewhere?"

It's presumably an adaptation of Michael Morpurgo's award-winning play War Horse.

Indeed it is. Should be one of the big blockbusters of next summer.

My problem with Morpurgo is that he makes me cry. Every single time. My problem with Spielberg is that, given the opportunity, he is often over-sentimental. The combination is, in this particular case, frightening.

Sounds like one of the Orange ads they show at the cinema...

And this from the person who thinks all films can be improved with the addition of explosions!

Well not *all* films. The vast majority, yes. :-p Anyway, sharks are quite a different matter to explosions. Sharks need careful placement, whereas a well timed explosion should be welcome almost anywhere!

How about "Pride and Prejudice"? ;-)

Now there you go. Sharks in Pride and Prejudice would clearly be out of place. Whereas a carefully placed explosion would improve the whole thing enormously!

Zombies of course wouldn't be, hence the best-selling improved version of the book.
