Milk Snatcher

This is exactly the sort of story that you have to assume must, just must be an urban myth. Nevertheless, I repeat it here just in case you've never heard it before and just in case it really is true.

According to no less a source than the Mister Softee website, Margaret Thatcher was a member of the research team that invented soft ice cream.

Now regardless of what you may think of most of her subsequent career, in the field of dairy produce, she may have taken away from children the force-fed out-of-date milk, but she gave them 99 flakes instead.

She was. There were milk shortages at the time. As a relatively recent chemistry graduate she was working on a process which would incorporate air into the mixture (as I recall vegetable oil came into it somewhere)to increase the volume and reduce the amount of milk required.

So I can blame her for all the crappy ice cream we got as children.

Well I *liked* school milk, and don't like ice-cream-van soft ice-cream, so that doesn't score her any points with me!
