Is this Adrian "Spooks" Lester, with whom I am unfamiliar, related to Adrian "Hustle" Lester by any chance?

I'd put in a vote for Roger "Your guarantee of viewing quality" Allam, who has never left a scene unstolen. But they keep saying that the physical demands of the filming schedule are such that nobody over the age of forty would stand a chance.

You're right - I'm confusing two shows that I never watched!

Peter Mannion! Super Mac! Yeah, he'd be great.

Where are the women?

Possibly through wishful thinking on my part I'd excluded them.

However, if you want to vote for Billie Piper, Joanna Lumley or whichever other girly is the current favorite, go ahead...

Chris 'Have you tried turning it off and on again?' O'Dowd could give the Doctor two ways to fix things rather than just relying on the Sonic Screwdriver.

That would be a hard joke for writers to resist.

The next actor will be someone, youngish, personable, and non-London-based who has appeared briefly in some other BBC production (possibly Dr Who itself), but has failed to register with anyone other than the Who casting director.

Someone like Aneurin Barnard, currently playing Richard III in The White Queen, and with the advantage (for a show filmed in Cardiff) of being a native Welsh speaker.

Being a native Welsh speaker really isn't much of an advantage in Cardiff, it's not as if they're filming in Anglesey. But I'm all in favour of Welsh hotties anyway - Welsh Rassilon good, Welsh Doctor better.

Yeah, you won't find much Welsh language stuff in south Wales in general. You need to go to mid-Wales and North Wales (from Llangollen west) for that.

Oh, that is bollox. There are plenty of Welsh speakers in South Wales! It's just that there are more *people* in South Wales so the percentage is lower. But even then, surely there the percentage must be pretty high in Cardigan and Ceredigion.

Cardigan / Ceredigion: surely that's mid Wales!

... Sorry, I meant Carmarthen (which is definitely South!)

I think Ceredigion is too.

I think you're right. I'd rather it was someone older personally, but I reckon it'll be someone we haven't heard of.

You didn't offer an option for don't know, don't much care, never heard of most of these guys anyway.

I'd like an unknown, or somebody relatively unknown. And that's who I think they'll cast, too.

David Tennant, years ago, predicted the Doctors would keep getting younger, so I submit: Daniel Radcliffe.

Good icon!

Happy with the result, and pleasantly surprised; I was really concerned that they were going down the younger-guys-only route, though at least they moved away from conventially-attractive-only already. (Not that I think Matt Smith or indeed Peter Capaldi are unattractive; just that a certain kind of 'TV-and-film attractiveness' doesn't really feel appropriate for the Doctor, but often seems to appeal to casting directors.)

I admit though that I would quite like to see an ethnic minority or female Doctor one day (as it is after all now canon, thanks to Gaiman, that Timelords can change gender on regeneration), though I certainly wouldn't want such casting to be purely for the sake of inclusive representation, they'd have to be the right actor too.
